Between Grief, Grace, and Grounding

ree

Life often cracks us open in ways we don’t choose. For me, it was the sound of Yoko’s bark, the rush outside, and the sight of our neighbor’s dog holding one of my chickens in his mouth. Blood on his face. The other two—scattered, lifeless.

It was the third year this same dog has done this. My body trembled as I realized I couldn’t bring myself to finish what had started. I asked the neighbor to step in. And as I walked back inside, sadness and disappointment washed over me—not just at the loss, but at the lack of accountability, the absence of assurance it wouldn’t happen again.

What struck me most was how familiar the lesson felt: the little girl in me who still wants to please everyone, even when it means betraying myself, and the woman I am becoming who knows healthy boundaries are love in action.

Perhaps you’ve been here too—grieving something precious, navigating the delicate line between compassion and self-protection, or learning how to voice your truth even when it feels hard.

And yet, in the very same space where grief lives, joy rises. Teacher Training begins again this fall. My Thursday Strong Flow classes light me up. There’s laughter by the pool with yoga friends. My daughter steps into her new school with courage and curiosity. Kayla and I are weaving a 4-part retreat series—three here at SOL, and one in Italy next summer. And the teachings of Mana Humanity, which continue to anchor me through every storm, will be shared here at Sacred Owl Land, May 1–7, 2026. (Space will be limited, and the waitlist is now open.)

A Gift for You – Grounding Practice

If your heart is carrying grief, overwhelm, or uncertainty, here’s a simple practice to come back to center:

🌿 Stand barefoot on the earth, close your eyes, take three deep breaths.

🌿 Imagine roots extending into the soil, steadying you. With each inhale, feel nourishment rising from the land.

🌿 Place your hands on your heart and whisper:“I honor peace. I honor protection. I honor what I am called to hold.”

🌿 Open your eyes and write down one boundary or blessing you are choosing today.

The truth I keep learning: Boundaries are love in form. Grief is a doorway to deeper presence. And miracles live right alongside heartbreak.

I’d love to hear what’s helping you ground lately? Comment below and share your wisdom and practice with me.

With love and gratitude, Vaza
